Many people think of non-profit and not-for-profit organizations as the same thing. However, that is not the case. Look at the difference between non-commercial and commercial services below.
Purpose of the organization:
Not-for-profit: Supports a cause, activity or community.
Non-profit organization: Supports charitable, scientific, educational or religious purposes.
Profit Utilization:Non-commercial: Financing activities related to their purpose.
Non-profit organization: Profits are used to support the business or purpose of the organization, but the funds can also be used to pay staff salaries and administrative expenses.
Type of employee:
Not-for-profit: Volunteers, paid personnel or a combination thereof.
Non-profit organizations: They could have both paid staff and paid volunteers.
The concepts used in International Practice are called «public organizations» or «non-governmental organizations» (non-governmental organization). In English-language literature in the United States and in some other countries, public associations" are called «non-profit non-profit organization» (not-for-profit organization). Other related expressions of the concept include:
